“I closed my eyes and tried to imagine Vita and Virginia strolling there at twilight, as lovers are wont to do, touching this blossom or that one, talking about what they are writing.”
Holding up, and being fed up, and often feeling hopeless, and then something exciting comes up, and then it doesn’t last very long, and then again thrown in some sort of weird torpor, and then snow comes, and it all feels like December again, and then the sun appears, but that doesn’t last very long either, and then it’s nighttime already, and then there is diner to prepare, and then going through the motions, and then it’s morning already, and then it all starts again. And then sometimes, maybe like once every few days, there is one breath that you take, that gives you all the feels. That makes you feel like you’ll be ok. That, you know, life, as you remember it, is this gorgeous magical thing that makes you feel deep, intoxicating, mesmerizing things, out of nowhere, just because you took a deep breath and remembered who you were, for a second.
Feeling covid-exhausted AND spring-hopeful. Not exactly standing straight up but exploding with colors and life... Can you relate? 🌷
If you’re in NYC look out for @linknycofficial celebrating Women’s History Month featuring illustrations by @illustrationdivision women artists. Really love how it turned out ❤️ Thanks to @egoggles who was kind enough to share with me the fantastic night pic!!
So proud to be in @szmagazin today to illustrate the words of the brilliant journalist and fellow Asian @minhthutran about the fetishization and hyper sexualisation of Asian women, following Atlanta’s mass shooting. Minh Thu and I are both of Vietnamese origin, she was born in Germany and I in France. Some of you may remember the masks project i worked on last summer... that’s how we met ❤️ I feel so humbled and empowered to get to work alongside such inspiring people who work tirelessly to lift our community up and tell our stories, and I’m grateful to @szmagazin for giving us the space to do it. Thank you for picking an Asian journalist and an Asian illustrator to talk about anti-Asian hate crimes. It might sound like an obvious choice, and it would be in a fair and equal society, but in the one we live in, it really isn’t, so i want to celebrate it for what it is. As @therealphilliplim said, “Lend us your microphone, lend us your platform, but don’t speak for us. Let us speak for ourselves... Give us the space to tell our stories.”

Happy International Women’s day!!!
I’ve been processing recent events regarding hate crimes against Asians around the world... an increase of 1900% on crimes against Asians since the beginning of the pandemic... people being murdered, thrown acid on, beaten to death, hit with knives...What’s going on right now is so triggering. It makes us Asians feel scared, powerless, angry, frustrated, ashamed, and it erodes our sense of self. It tells us lies about who we are, what we should believe, and how we should behave. It reminds us of something we’ve known our whole life, a deep, dark, tiresome lack of belonging. We’ve always wanted to belong to the society we were born into, and this is why our collective scar is so so deep. Because this society never meant to accept us in the first place.
